West 6th is packing May with a ton of good times in Austin. Because it’s gonna be May after all – what would JT do?
May 3 | Our friends at Green Light Social have made hump day even better, Asian style. They recently launched their weekly Sake Social on Wednesday nights from 5 p.m. on, and we’re BIG fans of the fresh event. Enjoy the spring weather on the patio with poke from Poke Me Long Time, sake flights and bombs, and live music (followed by DJ jams). Photo cred: Austin Foodstagram
May 4 | Arguably, the best event of the year for all Star Wars fans is Star Bar’s annual ‘May the 4th be with You’ party. Rebel Alliance or Imperial Army, dress in your finest Star Wars garb to earn a free cocktail because honor Star Wars with a proper party, we shall. Star Wars films will play indoor and outdoor TVs, and tap specials and limited edition t-shirts are all part of the fun. Bring yourself and your light saber.
May 4 | Need a laugh or a creative outlet? Head to Ray’s Backstage at The Rattle Inn for ‘Best Damn Karaoke’ from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. Every Thursday, Bobb X and Jon lead the evening, promising to stomp out any douchebaggery (i.e. don’t drop the damn mic).
May 5 | Cinco de Mayo (more accurately, Cinco de Drinco) is always a district-wide shenanigan. The Dogwood will open its doors at noon and offer fajita and street corn specials all day along with Terremoto Tequila specials for happy hour. Start even earlier with a margarita and queso at J. BLACK’S. Parlor & Yard will have $2 tacos from Baco Spanish Fare and $6 Bulldogs. Rustic Tap will have $5 margs and Old Camp whiskey, plus $3 Lonestar and other drink specials for happy hour and live music at 7 p.m. Everyone is going to have plenty of fiesta in store, so head out and crawl around.
May 5 | Ray’s Backstage (at the Rattle Inn) will host ‘texastentialism’ band, Hogan Sullivan Band at 10:30 p.m. Come for happy hour, grab straight-forward-gluttony fare at Masa, and head down for the free show! Damn the man, that’s a solid little Thursday night.
May 6 | Join J. BLACK’S for their annual Kentucky Derby Party. Dress dandy for the best hat contest, games + prizes, live music and other specials. Of course, Woodford Reserve mint juleps will be the drink of the day, but this year Kentucky Ale is also taking over the tap. Doors open at 11 a.m.
May 6 | The Dogwood West 6th will also be celebrating the Kentucky Derby with a dress-to-impress party with Woodford Reserve mint julep specials. Those 60 seconds of horsepower are so thrilling, we obviously need to drink about them on a patio all.day.long.
May 8 | Parlor & Yard brings back Yoga in the Yard on Monday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m. Join Ashlyn Finne for a $5 donation class and celebrate your focused breathing with all night specials on Cerveza Imperial.
May 14 | April 9 was the first of Green Light Social’s monthly event series called Second Sunday. It was great, and we are looking forward to the May 14 Edition. The monthly event features (free) food pop-ups from local Austin restaurants, drinks specials, and guest bartenders in addition to live music coordinated around a central theme. Second Sunday is a great collaboration between local businesses and puts more fun in your Sunday Funday. Stay tuned to #West6th social for more info.
We hope to see your pretty faces soon. ‘Till then, cheers friends.
