There was once a time, not so very long ago, that West Sixth was an odd place to open a bar. Star Bar changed that tide. In 1995, Star Bar – so dubbed for the original star shaped bar that served as a focal point inside – opened it’s doors on West Sixth. In doing so, the space quickly gained loyal lifelong regulars. Eventually evolving from the star-shaped bar into a bright, open space with ample covered patio space, Star Bar remains a mainstay because of its staff and friendly service. There’s nothing gimmicky about Star Bar; no keeping up with the Jones’. It’s just a laid back space that you can easily come to alone or with friends and feel equally comfortable.
The tap rotates 16 quality beers and cocktails are simple. Don’t be surprised if the bartenders introduce you to new products without you having to order – they remember what you like and help guide you through their offerings. Star Bar is home to the accoladed Violet Taco food truck that carries on the tradition of serving one of Austin’s best tacos – Valentina’s Brisket Taco. Star Bar is also a watch space for Packers and Florida State University fans. Star Bar is available for large parties and private events, in addition to hosting events like May the Fourth Be With You and the weekly Wine Down Wednesday (free cheese plate for every bottle purchased).
