We’re officially in 10 days away from Fat Tuesday, the international day of feasting, fête and celebration. You might have heard already, but this Fat Tuesday in Austin, we’re throwing a fête the likes of which the city’s never seen. Join West 6th this Mardi Gras for a Second Line Bar Crawl and Gumbo Cook-off. Here’s what you can expect…
The Tin Pan Tigers will be leading us around the block Nawlins’ second line style. The trumpeting, sax-ing, drumming, strumming, sousaphone-ing glory starts at Little Woodrow’s, then brass bands to Star Bar, Parlor & Yard, Dirty Bill’s, The Dogwood, J. BLACKS, Kung Fu Saloon and Green Light Social.
Each stop will have a featured local brew from local favorites like Celis, Austin Beerworks and Austin Eastsiders – and a special cocktail (think hurricanes, sazeracs, planter’s punch and more).
Free Early Bird gumbo tickets are sold out, but another batch of $5 tickets has been released today. Confirmed gumbo locations are Kung Fu Saloon, Parlor & Yard, J. Black’s and Star Bar. Bonus: Dirty Bills will have Frank & Angie’s Pizza and King Cakes will be scattered around the block (naturally).
Because drinking and driving is both illegal and for loser assholes, our friends at Lyft are offering a 30 percent ride discount for West 6th Fat Tuesday routes FOR EXISTING USERS (code W6FATTUESDAY). Please drink responsibly, guys.
So, there you have it. Join us on Fat Tuesday to feast and toast to the good life before we have to give up girl scout cookies, alcohol, tacos, sugar, you name it for Lent.
