We’re getting no relief from the heat, but we are getting relief from the drought that football left back in early February on its way out. Apparently, the dog days of summer may never end in Austin, but the good news is that we’re officially in Week One of the NCAA and a week away from the NFL opening week.
We can almost taste the pigskin, chicken wings and beer. Soon Saturdays will be spent tailgating, Sundays will be spent beer in hand and Monday, Thursday and Friday nights will stop being so empty.
Football season is big for the West 6th district. Eater even gives nods to Star Bar and Little Woodrow’s for being fantastic football viewing spots. All over the block, you’ll find the comforts of home except with more opportunities for high-fives. Here’s what’s going on.
Parlor & Yard — This year, Parlor & Yard is home to the Buffalo Bills fans. For the NCAA, they are home to Penn State’s Nittany Lion’s watch party. On offer are comfortable lounging, a great selection of canned and draft beer, plus great cocktails and ridiculously good wings and burgers from Hot Mess Kitchen.

Star Bar — Star Bar is the official watch spot for Packers fans. This season Tumble 22 is dishing out their hot chicken. Get there early for a seat, otherwise, expect to stand with the rest of the energetic Green Bay loyalists. The first Sunday of each month also means the Hail Mary – a bloody mary crowned by an entire meal. Star Bar is also the designated watch spot of University of Tennessee fans.
“Eat hot chicken from Tumble 22, drink, and watch the Packers, Seminoles, or Volunteers play. The epic Bloody Marys are a meal in themselves.” — Eater Austin

Green Light Social — Noles fans spend their season Tomahawk chopping and hoping to get lucky at Green Light Social. Green Light Social – Austin’s official FSU watch spot – kicked off the football season with one of their infamous parties tomorrow night and FSU devotees can expect the same for every game of the season.
NCAA | Florida State University vs Virginia Tech | 7 pm | Sept. 3
Little Woodrow’s — Every Seahawks game means standing room only at everyone’s favorite neighborhood bar. Come early for a spot on the patio and snag a few tacos to soak up the suds – this is going to get rowdy. Little Woodrow’s is also a watch spot for UW fans. During every NFL and UT game expect beer bucket specials.
“Little Woodrow’s has been an Austin favorite for years and it continues to set the standard for Austin sports bars. Each location features beer bucket specials as well as NFL Game Day, and all major college networks – including Longhorn Network. The 6th street location has a loyal, raging Seattle Seahawks fan club and the other 4 locations feature the Longhorns and Aggies.”— Austin Food Magazine

The Dogwood — The faithful following of America’s team heads to The Dogwood every weekend to watch Dem Boyz. Why? Cold beer, served with a smile, good southern cooking and ample TVs. Bonus points for the special gifts they offer like signed jerseys. Dogwood is also home to Ohio State
